NOW THAT THINGS HAVE FALLEN APART

Achebe's remains at the Airport

In a world where things keep falling apart virtually every day as a result of varied reasons that range from politics to social, economic and cultural factors, one cannot but surrender when death calls and the grave yard still remains the richest place to visit.
The burial of the literary icon Prof. Chinua Achebe, who died at the 82 year old in United States on March 21, 2013 was scheduled to take place on Thursday been May 23, 2013 in Ogidi a community in Anambra state, still sends no special feeling in the air.
As every Tom puts on mourning faces, the Dicks and Harrys are indifferent about his home-coming in death. Some are of the view that he made a great impact in the African literature while others feel he has done nothing extra-ordinary as he succeeded in pointing out the shortcomings in Nigeria without proffering solutions.
Of all the state burials I have known in Nigeria, that of Chinua seems to be the only one that didn’t attract a public holiday from state government, although civil servants are expected to attend the ceremonies slated to hold in the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka on Wednesday.
Why should his home-coming in death be different? kindly share after reading. thanks.
